Blog tips and tricks with del.icio.us

After posting a blog about how to put the "Add to Google" and "Add to Yahoo" buttons on your blog a few days ago using Feedburner - Josh Waller from DigiCamReview posted a comment and asked:

Can you publish a quick tutorial on "social bookmarking" sites like digg, delicious, reddit, google bookmarks next so that we can add the links to the bottom of blog posts really easily? I've already setup +digg links (the hard way) on one of my sites, and wonder whether adding the others is worth it?

Always up for a challenge - I had to get my head around what sites like del.icio.us actually do as this was not something that I had yet faced. Sure, I had seen the link on other blogs but as is my want - I tend to ignore things I don't know about for a bit and the thinking that if the links start appearing all over the place, then I will find out about them.

And I am quite glad that I did. Del.icio.us is quite a cool concept to be fair. It is a bookmarking service - but any site that I book mark on my Del.icio.us account will at some point the following day appear on this blog. So yesterday I set up my Del.icio.us account and played around with a few settings. Happily it interacts with Typepad easily.

But to get the Del.icio.us links on the bottom of each blog post - the easiest way that I have found so far is to turn to our old friend Feedburner again.

Login to your feedburner account and go to the "optimize" area for your feed. Click "feedflare" and just check the options that you want! It is as easy as that. I did and a few seconds later - the Del.icio.us link appears on all my blogs.

Hope this helps Josh!

Thanks Matt, I've added this to both sites, so that it now features in my feeds.

Hi Matt, I've found a site:
http://www.exploding-boy.com/2006/01/09/add-links-for-delicious-digg-and-more-to-blog-posts/
that has the code to add links for nearly all of these bookmarking sites.
